BIO
Audrey Pernell is a performing, teaching, and healing artist who embraces her voice as her primary vehicle for self-exploration, artistic interpretation, and scholarly research. She trains privately with Jonathan Hart Makwaia (Roy Hart Theatre musical director, composer and performer 1975-1988; NYU Experimental Theatre Wing 1988-present) in New York, and has attended intensive voice workshops in Philadelphia with Teatr Slava (Sweden), Mariana Sadovska (Ukraine), and Deborah Crane (USA). Internationally, she has trained with the teachers of the Roy Hart International Arts Centre & Pantheatre in France, The Florence Voice Seminar in Italy, and Jean-René Toussaint of Stemwerk in Turkey. With ALATetc, Ms. Pernell has co-coordinated workshops for Mr. Toussaint in New York, as well as lectures, performances, and workshops with Allen Kuharski of Swarthmore College and with Pig Iron Theatre Company in Philadelphia.
Under the mentorship of Vernice Miller, Audrey Pernell has taught voice and movement for professional performers, high school and college students, and at-risk youth at Dance Theatre Etcetera, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Safe Space, New York City Public Schools, and Union College in New York; Rutgers University in New Jersey; Buildabridge and Dance Theatre Camp in Philadelphia; Teatro Prometeo in Miami (the only Spanish language theatre conservatory in the US), upon the invitation of Joann Maria Yarrow, Artistic Director; and Swarthmore College, upon the invitation of Kym Moore.
Supplementing her performance and vocal pedagogy endeavors, Ms. Pernell works as a licensed integrative massage therapist and certified Vinyasa Yoga teacher. With Vernice Miller, Joann Maria Yarrow, and Neil David Seibel she serves as co-artistic director of A Laboratory for Actor Training Experimental Theatre Company.
